Forth Canoe Club members paddle all styles of canoes: open and closed, Canadian and kayak, recreational and competition. The website lists our regular sessions. New members are always welcome, as are visitors.
Club Nights are on Thursdays from April to October at 18:30 at the boathouse on the Union Canal next to Harrison Road Bridge, in the heart of Edinburgh. In Winter we run Pool Sessions to practice skills including eskimo rolls.
We run coaching sessions and courses suited for complete beginners, as well as the more practiced in both kayaks and canoes. We also offer summer courses, a week long introduction to canoeing for 8 to 12 year olds. Throughout the year, Forth Canoe Club organises a number of Club Trips on rivers, seas, reservoirs and lochs.
We play polo in the Scottish divisions and practice every Wednesday night on the Canal. We run regular Sprint training sessions at all levels. Forth is home to Ieuan James who represented Team GB at the 2015 Junior Sprint World Championships, and to four junior athletes who paddle with the Scottish Performance squad. Our boathouse in Edinburgh has a set of slalom gates for training on the Canal. Forth Canoe Club has produced Olympian slalomists including David Florence who won silver in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012. Beginners slalom training sessions are held on Tuesdays at the Canal. Forth has been home to champion surf canoeists such as Neil Baxter, and includes previous Scottish women and junior White Water Racing champions.
Forth Canoe Club was founded in 1934 and has been successful ever since. You can find us on Wikipedia! But best go to our own website at www.forthcc.com.
